SNAP2 Study - Updates and more
SNAP2 Health Equity stream
There are stark gaps in maternity outcomes between women from Black, Asian, mixed and white ethnic groups. Trial populations tend to include a larger proportion of more affluent individuals than society as a whole.
Acknowledging this and recognising that it is a challenge to recruit participants from socially disadvantaged or ethnic minority groups, the SNAP2 trial aims to support health equity through proactive recruitment strategies and ongoing monitoring and engagement with specific under represented communities.
Different stakeholder groups have been involved from the outset of the SNAP2, to provide input into all stages of the trial. These include:
- an active Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) group, 10 with former hypertensive pregnancy plus a spouse of a former patient. They are of different ethnicities and religions with most living in more deprived neighbourhoods and some unemployed.
- third-sector organisations and community groups as well as clinical and research professionals including equality, diversity and inclusion leads.
As well as targeted recruitment strategies, the SNAP2 trial will involve a process evaluation to consider the experiences of women and understand how postnatal self-management of hypertension is enacted and integrated into women’s lives and clinical pathways. We will ensure that women from socio-economically deprived and/or ethnically diverse groups are included and their perspectives heard.
