DPhil Candidate
I am a DPhil student working within the hypertension team under the supervision of Professor Richard McManus, Dr Katherine Tucker and Dr Nerys Astbury. My project will explore lifestyle interventions during the antenatal period that support weight management and blood pressure control in a high risk pregnant population.
I am also a registered midwife where my experience of caring for women with complex pregnancies led to an interest in understanding the determinants of health and adverse outcomes specifically in relation to nutrition, lifestyle and environment. In order to understand this in the context of the wider society and the biological mechanisms by which they come about, I achieved an MSc in Applied Human Nutrition at Oxford Brookes University.
Prior to my DPhil, I worked as a research assistant in the health behaviours team within the department. I primarily worked on a priority setting project which aimed to identify the most important unanswered questions in obesity and weight-related research.
