Trial Manager

Susan Zhao

Clinical Trial Manager

I am currently working as a Clinical Trial Manager on the STEP programme (Stratification and Treatment for Early Psychosis) – including the ENHANCE and ASSIST trials (https://www.phctrials.ox.ac.uk/recruiting-trials/step-programme), a role I have held since August 2023.

I joined the Primary Care Health Sciences Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) at the University of Oxford in August 2022 as a Clinical Trial Manager on the PANORAMIC trial (https://www.panoramictrial.org/), an adaptive platform study designed to identify early antiviral treatments for COVID-19.

Before this, I worked for eight years as a Research Nurse with the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Primary Care – West Midlands South Team, based at the University of Warwick. In this role, I delivered multiple NIHR-approved research projects using a variety of research methodologies.

I hold an MPhil in Health Sciences from the University of Warwick, an MSc in Health Sciences (Research Methods) from Northumbria University and an Advanced Diploma in Nursing from Fu Dan University, China. I am also a registered nurse in the UK.

My professional interests include trial design and delivery in primary care and secondary care, research capacity building, and advancing evidence-based practice through robust clinical research.
