Clinical Trials Day, 20 May 2022
"The superb research scientists in the Primary Care Department and in our wider collaboration are delivering critically important, innovative trials to the highest international standards.
We salute our multidisciplinary team that covers all the essential functions for the design and implementation of rigorous randomised trials; each one of our research team is ‘mission critical’ to generating clinical evidence that is guiding care worldwide, not only for COVID, but for trials in all our priority thematic areas.
Maximum respect to you all!"

Find out what some of our trial participants had to say:
“There were so many people doing their bit on the frontline, facing horrendous situations in the ward. For me it would have seemed ridiculous to say no to taking part in the trial when it was such an easy thing to do.”
- trial participant from Oxfordshire
“I would absolutely recommend taking part in research. I read about the drug being approved and I was really pleased. It was nice to get the outcome."
– trial participant from Oxfordshire
What is a platform trial? A plain English explainer.
You may have seen the words ‘platform trial’ on this site referring to the PANORMAIC and PRINCIPLE trials. This short article will explain briefly what a platform trial is, and how it differs from more common types of clinical trial you may have read about elsewhere.
Meet Joshua: a PANORAMIC trial participant
Joshua is a Senior Communications and Engagement Manager for NHS England and NHS Improvement and joined the trial having been unwell with COVID-19.
The PANORAMIC study is working across all UK communities to evaluate if treatment administered early in the course of the COVID-19 illness can help people aged over 50 and those at higher risk recover faster, without the need for hospital admission.
